Why your AC struggles in a Peoria summer — and the 5-minute check to try first
Before you call anyone, there is one thing worth checking yourself.
When an Arizona summer settles in, an air conditioner that was fine in April starts falling behind. Before you assume the worst, do the free stuff first: check the filter. A clogged filter is the single most common reason a system runs constantly without cooling the house. Hold it up to a light — if you cannot see through it, replace it.
Next, walk outside and look at the condenser unit. Clear away any dirt, leaves, cottonwood fluff or gravel around it, and hose the fins gently from the inside out. A unit that cannot shed heat cannot cool your house, no matter how hard it runs.
Finally, look at the thermostat. If it is set to "fan on" instead of "auto", the system is blowing unconditioned air around the house. And if the indoor unit is dripping or there is water pooling near it, the condensate drain is probably clogged — a small, quick fix that stops a big mess.
If you have done those three things and it is still not keeping up, that is the right time to call. We will give you a free estimate and an honest answer.
